In this issue, Gong Yuehua, a professor of Donghua University, and Mr. Pan, R&D Consultant of Kingswin Industrial Co., Ltd. were invited to express their views on PLA fibre and bioplastic packaging. Professor Gong has a professional view on PLA production technology, while Mr. Pan points out great challenges existing in the bioplastic packaging industry.

As the Chinese Spring Festival is drawing near, many enterprises are striving to finish their current programmes or make plans for new programmes ahead of the festival. For example, as the lyocell fibre programme of Baoding Swan Co., Ltd. has not been finished on schedule, CCM finds that China’s lyocell fibre commercialization may encounter troubles, while Glory Biomaterial’s first phase of its biological PDO programme has entered pilot production. Meanwhile, Kingfa may greatly benefit from its biodegradable plastic programme in 2013, while Shandong Polymer also plans to expand its PAM programme and conduct the technology upgrading of its AM production line.

In Feb. 2013, China Customs published import and export data for 2012, so CCM has made annual conclusions for corn, PLA, cassava and castor oil and its derivatives.

Headline

A comment from Kingswin about the challenges existing in the bioplastic packaging industry.

An article about main production technology and application of PLA fibre from Professor Gong, Donghua University.

PET may become a new growth point of the biological plastic industry.

China’s lyocell fibre commercialization may encounter troubles due to the high entry threshold.

In 2013, Kingfa may greatly benefit from its biodegradable plastic programme with the help of the commissioning of biodegradable plastic capacity and the government’s support policies.

In Oct. 2012, BrightChina cooperated with Weistek to develop 3D printing business through a capital increase and injecting printing-supplies business into Weistek.

Shandong Polymer plans to increase its PAM supply through PAM capacity expansion and technology upgrading of its AM production line.

Glory Biomaterial’s 20,000t/a biological PDO production line entered pilot production in Jan. 2013.

In 2011/2012, the corn price was hovering at a high level without significant increase, supply and demand were nearly balanced, and the origins of China’s imported corn increased as well.

In 2012, China imported 4,680.3 tonnes of PLA with an average price of USD2,819/t, while China’s export volume of PLA was about 640.4 tonnes with an average price of USD2,660/t. The trade volume of PLA in 2012 was weaker than that in 2011.

In 2012, China’s import volume of dry cassava and fresh cassava increased fast, while the price decreased marginally.

In 2012, as the price of castor oil and its derivatives returned to normal, China’s import volume of castor oil and its derivatives greatly increased by about 60.1%.
