Recovery of Prior Consumption Volumes of Phosphorous Fertilizers is Projected for 2011

Jun 29th, 2010

In the end of 2008 – beginning of 2009 due to sharp price fluctuations the global Phosphorous Fertilizers market was practically paralyzed. According to analysts’ estimations, Phosphorous Fertilizers consumption volumes dropped dramatically during this period. The recovery of prior consumption volumes is projected for 2011. Forecasts indicate the recovery growth of 3% in 2010; specialists predict that in 2010 – 2011 consumption will reach 5 mln tons.

According to the data of the International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA), the overall growth of global Phosphorous Fertilizers demand in 2010 will be in progress primarily thanks to the trade turnover in the USA, Brazil, China, Russia, Pakistan, India.

A key characteristic of the global production of Mineral Fertilizers is that for the sake of cost reduction manufacturers concentrate production facilities in the regions of raw material sources and trading areas. Thus Phosphorous and Nitrogenous Fertilizers factories are usually situated in consumption areas. Therefore today such large-scale consuming regions as Asia (China and India) and North America (the USA) are major producers of Phosphorous and Nitrogenous Fertilizers.

Nowadays more than 30 countries produce Phosphate-bearing raw materials for domestic and foreign markets. About 95% of the global Phosphate-bearing raw materials volume is manufactured in 12 countries, the largest producers among which are the USA, China and Morocco – totally they account for 2/3 of the overall volumes. Morocco possesses 50% of the world reserves of these raw materials.

Phosphorous Fertilizers are mineral fertilizers on a Phosphate basis. Here belong superphosphate, double superphosphate, ammophos, diammophos, potassium metaphosphate, precipitated phosphate, Thomas phosphate, ground phosphate, bone dust, etc.

Phosphate is essential for fruit and berries cultivation. It is found in conjugate proteins, that are integral in the process of fruit development. It helps along enrichment of amylum, sugar, fat, accelerates fruit ripening and raises winter hardiness of crops.

Phosphate is instrumental in global nutritional chain and important for overall agricultural growth. Depletion of Phosphate reserves threatens food safety on the planet.
